CHRISTIAN EDUCATION (CE)

CE 817 Present Issues in Christian Education (3)
This course is a study of some contemporary issues in Christian education, including Biblical, theological, philosophical, historical, sociological, psychological, and curricular issues.

CHRISTIAN COUNSELING (CC)

CC 826 Present Issues in Pastoral Counseling (3)
A study of the methods of pastoral counseling with individuals, couples, families, and groups with guided clinical reading case studies, and indepth discussions of personality theories and theories of pastoral psychotherapy.

CHURCH HISTORY (CH)

CH 623 History of Christian Doctrines (3)
A survey will be made of the history of Christian doctrines with an elective on understanding contemporary doctrinal problems.

CHRISTIAN LEADERSHP (CL)

CL 401 Spiritual Formation for Christian Life (3)
This course explores the call to the ministry, spiritual and physical qualifications for the ministry, developing and maintaining spirituality in the ministry, and the prayer life of the mature Christian.

CL 403 Principles of Leadership (3)
This course is designed to give an analysis of the tasks, styles and models of leadership according to the Biblical and church in a context for Christian leadership.

CL 812 Spiritual Christian Leadership (3)
Recognize biblical qualities in the lives of people committed to furthering the coming of the Kingdom of God.

CHURCH MUSIC (CM)

CM 101 Basic Musicianship (3)
An integrated course dealing with the fundamentals of music, such as common practice harmony, ear training, sight-singing, and keyboard harmony.

CM 102 Advanced Musicianship (3)
An advanced study in music theory as a continuation of CM 101.

CM 110 Recital Lab (0)
Each church music student must take four semester of the Recital Laboratory, which is attendance at local recitals and lecture at least six times per semester.

CM 111 Piano Proficiency (0)
All church music students, except for piano majors, must pass a piano proficiency examination.
At the least it must be completed prior to the student's graduation recital.

CM 112 Vocal Proficiency (0)
All church music students, except for voice majors, must pass a vocal proficiency examination.
At the least it must be completed prior to the student's graduation recital.

CM 201 Western Music History (3)
A study of music development and a historical and critical survey of various periods in western music history.

CM 300 Midwest Ensemble (3)
Midwest church music students' choral dedication for School chapel services and other School activities. Required until graduation.

CM 311 Introduction to Music Ministry (3)
An introductory course on church music, covering the influence of music, biblical and theological foundations of church music, worship and music, hymnology, and contemporary Christian music.

CM 312 Introduction to Hymnology (3)
An introduction to the study of the development of hymnology and gospel songs from Biblical times to contemporary hymnody; analyzing hymns in biblical, theological, literary, and musical aspects, and of their usage in the various ministries of the church, especially in the corporate worship.

CM 313 Church Music Literature (3)
A survey of vocal and instrumental literature suitable for the churches.

CM 314 Church Music Education (3)
A study of materials and methods used in leading children, youth, and adult choirs through the music ministry.

CM 316 Church Music Practicum I (1.5)
A field-based course of practical application of music ministry skills, providing the student leadership opportunities in a local church, including worship planning, worship leading, and working with choirs, ensembles, and instrumentalists.

CM 317 Church Music Practicum II (1.5)
Continuation of CM 316.

CM 401 Form and Analysis (3)
A study of various musical forms through analysis of representative compositions for voice, choir, piano, other solo instruments, and small ensembles.

CM 411 Applied Area I: Voice / Piano / Organ / Composition (2)
In addition to the required private study, 30 minute private music lesson, students will attend and participate in the third-year-first term Sunday worship activities of the Midwest University Community Church. The University Chaplain and course instructor will collaborate in the determination of music assignments at the Community Church. The minimum attendance required to pass this course is 10 Sunday per term.

CM 412 Applied Area II: Voice / Piano/ Organ / Composition (2)
In addition to the required private study, 30 minute private music lesson the student will attend and participate in the third- year-second term Sunday worship activities of the Midwest University Community Church. A study in music in worship on the biblical and historical foundations with the goal of forming a comprehensive and balanced philosophy for the appropriate use of music in worship today.

A study of worship in the Scripture, giving attention to the development of a theology of worship that is based on the teachings of the Bible, and its appropriate application for the contemporary worship trends.
