Doctor of Education

PURPOSE

Midwest University offers the Doctor of Education program to prepare experienced educators and educational leaders to lead institutional transformation, educational innovation, and global educational collaboration in the rapidly evolving educational landscape. The program integrates leadership theory, educational policy, learning sciences, and digital innovation to develop transformative leaders in education.

OBJECTIVES

Upon completing this degree, students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate ethical, strategic, and visionary leadership in the planning, administration, and improvement of educational institutions and related organizations.
  • 2nalyze and address complex educational challenges through the application of advanced knowledge in educational leadership, policy, innovation, and organizational development.
  • Apply advanced research methodologies, data analysis, and evidence-based practices to support professional decision-making and contribute to educational scholarship and practice.
  • Integrate emerging technologies, global perspectives, and cross-cultural understanding to enhance educational leadership and collaboration in diverse educational settings.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

  • Application form for admission
  • $100.00 non-refundable application fee
  • A brief autobiographical statement
  • Applicant Qualifications:
    • Master¡¯s degree holder (Every major)
    • For the Doctor of Education program, students must have majored in Education in their master program. If they did not major in Education, they must take 12~24 additional credits as prerequisite courses.
    • The completed course with grade C+ below would not be counted as credit hours.
    • GPA should be above 3.5
  • Admission Procedures:
    Admission procedures consist of application screening, entrance exam, and interview.
    • Applicants should pass application screening before taking entrance tests. Application includes applicant's essay, recommendation letters, and transcripts.
    • The test areas are essay and English (reading).
    • Program faculties will interview applicants who take tests.
    • Application screening, written essay test, English test and interview respectively take up 100 points (Total 400 points). Admission would be given to the applicants who scored 320 points above.
    • Faculty committee will make all admission decisions.
  • Two recent photographs (for student ID)

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

  • The doctoral program is designed to be completed within five academic years. A maximum of seven years may be granted upon appeal to the Academic Dean.
  • The student must successfully complete a prescribed course of study with a minimum of 3.00 (B) grade point average on a 4.00 scale.
  • The awarding of a "C" in a doctoral course constitutes a failure (unsuccessful completion of the course).
  • The student must pass a qualifying examination.
  • The student must successfully complete a dissertation and pass the oral defense.
  • Prior to graduation the student must meet all financial obligations to the institution.
  • All candidates for graduation must complete a non-credit course, GE 500 Worldview. It will be waived for the students who have taken any biblical courses.

Students learn advanced qualitative and quantitative research methods for educational research.

EDD 811 Educational Administration and Governance (4)
This course examines the principles and practices of educational administration, institutional governance, and organizational leadership within educational settings. Emphasis is placed on policy implementation, ethical decision-making, accreditation, and effective institutional management.
EDD 812 Strategic Institutional Leadership (4)
This course focuses on strategic leadership models for educational institutions through vision development, organizational planning, and change management. Students analyze leadership strategies that promote institutional effectiveness, sustainability, and innovation.
EDD 813 Education Policy Leadership (4)
This course explores the development, analysis, and implementation of educational policies at local, national, and global levels. The course emphasizes leadership approaches for addressing contemporary educational challenges through policy advocacy and reform.
EDD 814 Educational Organizational Development (4)
This course studies theories and practices related to organizational growth, institutional culture, and continuous improvement in educational environments. Students examine leadership strategies for enhancing collaboration, effectiveness, and organizational transformation.

2. Digital Learning and Educational Innovation AI

EDD 821 Artificial Intelligence in Education Leadership (4)
This course introduces the application of artificial intelligence technologies in educational leadership, administration, and learning environments. Emphasis is placed on ethical implementation, data-informed decision-making, and emerging trends in AI-driven education.
EDD 822 Digital Learning Systems and Innovation (4)
This course examines digital learning environments, online education systems, and innovative instructional technologies. Students evaluate strategies for designing and leading technology-enhanced learning organizations.
EDD 823 Learning Analytics and Intelligent Education (4)
This course explores the use of learning analytics, educational data systems, and intelligent technologies to improve teaching, learning, and institutional effectiveness. Students analyze data-driven approaches for educational assessment and decision-making.
EDD 824 Technology Leadership in Education (4)
This course focuses on leadership competencies required for effective integration of technology within educational institutions. Topics include technology planning, digital transformation, ethical issues, and innovation management in education.

3. Global Education and International Development

EDD 831 Comparative Education Systems (4)
This course examines educational systems, structures, and reforms across various countries and cultural contexts. Students analyze global educational trends and compare policy, governance, and leadership practices internationally.
EDD 832 International Education Policy (4)
This course studies international educational policies and global issues influencing educational development and reform. Emphasis is placed on policy analysis, international collaboration, and leadership in diverse educational contexts.
EDD 833 Cross Cultural Leadership in Education (4)
This course explores leadership practices and communication strategies within culturally diverse educational environments. Students develop competencies for effective collaboration, inclusion, and leadership across multicultural settings.
EDD 834 Global Educational Development (4)

This course explores neuroscience principles and brain-based learning theories relevant to educational leadership and instructional improvement. Students examine strategies for creating learning environments that support cognitive development and learner engagement.
EDD 852 Gifted Education Policy and Leadership (4)
This course examines policies, leadership strategies, and program development for gifted and talented education. Emphasis is placed on advocacy, curriculum planning, and equitable educational opportunities for high-ability learners.
EDD 853 Creativity and Talent Development (4)
This course studies theories and practices related to creativity, innovation, and talent development in educational settings. Students explore leadership approaches that foster creative thinking and support diverse learner potential.
EDD 854 Innovation Programs for High Ability Learners (4)

Service leadership Engangement Program (SLEP)

The Service Leadership Engagement Program is designed to cultivate servant leadership, ethical responsibility, professional integrity, and community engagement through structured leadership service activities. Doctoral students participate in community service, organizational leadership projects, and professional engagement experiences that strengthen ethical leadership and social responsibility competencies.

Option 1 - Community Service

Complete 24 hours of approved community service, demonstrating leadership, civic engagement, and service to the community.

Option 2 - Leadership Service Seminar

Complete a 1-credit Leadership Service Seminar, which focuses on the role and responsibilities of leaders in serving communities. Students are required to attend the seminar and successfully complete a reflective report or assigned project demonstrating their understanding and application of service leadership principles.
